Beach Playa Martianez / Lago Martianez

The half-circle shaped Playa Martianez is east from Puerto de la Cruz at the the promenade Avenida Colon. Right next to it is Lago Martianez.

The Beach

Playa Martianez offers black natural sand and it is always busy here because of its location right at the Avenida Colon. The crossing from beach to the water is actually a stone beach, therefore, bathing shoes are recommended. Although playa Martianez has its own wavebreaker, the breakers are quite strong. Therefore, pay attention to the flagging: if there is a red flag - bathing is prohibited! Showers are available.

Next to Playa Martiánez is the swimming pool Lago Martiánez. This artificial bathing paradise is right on sea level. The white pools are filled with sea water and are formed organicly to unite with the white walls. If the ocean has high waves the spray of the ocean spills directly into the pools. There are planted lava islands, relaxing zones and art sculptures providing real South Pacific feeling. Both, tourists and locals love Lago Martiánez.

Strong breakers at Playa Martiánez are dangerous for children. But Lago Martiánez is really suitable for kids.

Restaurants

Due to its location right within the city, you will find lots of restaurants of all kinds.

Puerto de la Cruz

Many giant hotels were erected in the 1960s and 1970s in the area of Puerto de la Cruz. During that time Puerto de la Cruz was the main target for international tourist. Today, the tourist flow is headed toward the south of Tenerife. Nevertheless, there are still many tourists, especially during the european winter, who favor the green and blooming north of the island around Puerto de la Cruz. Due to the creation of gardens, low traffic zones and the restauration of the city centre, new live was given to the town of Puerto de la Cruz. While walking along the promenade, you can go shopping, have a nice meal or drink and enjoy the maritime wheather - all at the same time.
