The village Los Realejos
Los Realejos Bajo is only 3 km away from the centre of Puerto de la Cruz, but it has almost nothing in common with it. There are 5 natural reserves around Los Realejos ("Ruiz", "Los Campeches", "Tigaiga", "Rambla del Castro" and "Barranco de Ruíz"). It is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, who want to encounter the flora and fauna of the area - and that you can do almost to any extend. If you want to take a trip into nature, it is recommendable to take along a plant guide book. The plants in this area are so unique and uncountable - it would be a shame to walk by them without noticing.
When you hike or drive to the "Mirador de la Corona" you will be rewarded with one of the most amazing sights over the Orotava valley and the north coast.
Los Realejos Bajo is the alternative for all Puerto de la Cruz holiday makers, who do not want to spend their holiday in the centre of the city. The holiday apartments in Los Realejos Bajo are commonly in private hands. There are also some very nice fincas with holiday apartments. And if you want to enjoy the hustle, the city centre is not far.
Los Realejos Bajo is not as well-known by tourists as Puerto de la Cruz. Mainly locals live here, who rather spend their time at Playa Socorro than at Playa Jardin during their weekends. Also, Playa Socorro is one of the few beaches where you can actually go surfing.
