Santiago del Teide
The town of Santiago del Teide is located 950 metres above sea level, east of the Teno mountain range, in a high valley.
In the surroundings they still farm a bit and in the centre of the town there is a beautiful church called “Iglesia de Santiago de Compostela” with a statue of Christ, from the 15th century.
In Santiago del Teide there is the turning to the TF 436, which leads into the mountain village of Masca, in the Teno mountain range.
About 5km south of Santiago del Teide, there is the town Arguayo with the “Centro Alfarero” in an old farm house. There they manufacture pottery without potter's wheel, by using traditional methods of the Guanches, and fire the pottery in an old kiln. You can watch the process and also visit an exhibition.
The black lava beach, Playa de la Arena, is situated about 10 km southwards, in Puerto de Santiago.
